COMMUNITY SERVICE IN ZIMBABWE
Departmental Vision
To assess offenders for best correction.
Departmental Mission Statement
To promote the administration of justice by providing the courts with professionally compiled reports and recommendations on offenders to be considered for Community Service and by effectively supervising compliance with Community Service orders.
Functions of the Department
Community Service is a form of sentence imposed by the courts whereby carefully selected persons who have committed non-serious criminal offences are ordered to perform unpaid work that is of benefit to the community or section thereof but not to an individual. The offender can, for example, be ordered to sweep the street or market place, cut grass on public or private institutions, or clean public toilets or hospital floors or do special work for disadvantaged members of the community.
