TECHNICAL SECTION

Construction Unit .

The Construction Unit is responsible for carrying out Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) projects which involves construction of buildings such as staff accommodation and temporary structures such as prison farm cells, sheds and maintenance of Prison buildings.

Projects/Farms

Zimbabwe is an agrarian country and it is for this and other reasons that the Zimbabwe Prison Service places high priority on farming activities. Out of the 42 prisons, countrywide 18 of them are farm prisons where inmates engage in cropping, animal husbandry and horticulture under the directions of qualified farmers.

The organisation produces the following products used as rations for inmates:

• maize
• beef
• pork
• milk
• beans
• vegetables
• sweet potatoes
• cassava
• okra

The ZPS is also into the production of cash crops such as tobacco, wheat, cotton and sorghum from which we generate much needed revenue.
